Anyone who knows us, knows we love Bluestone. We may have been once or twice (five?!) and have sent at least 3 families there on recommendation too. It’s no exaggeration that we would happily live there if we could! Our most recent visit fell during the Myths & Legends Festival, which celebrates the birthday of Pembrokeshire's own pirate Black Bart. The festival sees lots of themed activities and culminates in a party in the village with music and games. By far the best activities this year were the Knight School, where Esme was able to dress as a Knight and be taught how to use a sword, and the jousting competition that started the evening before the parade and party. I can't stress enough how awesome the jousting was! The accommodation at Bluestone consists on lodges and cottages scattered around the site, many by the lake and many more visited by some very confident ducks hoping to join you for breakfast! We have stayed in Caldey and Skomer lodges and been very comfortable in both. The lodges and cottages are all fully equipped, child friendly and each has a highchair and travel cot, as well as stair gates. The Blue Lagoon offers a beach swimming pool, toddler pool, flumes and slides, wave machine, lazy river and cafe. The changing rooms have large family changing rooms as well as smaller changing facilities and lockers to keep your things in. The swimming pool is lovely and warm and because it has a 'beach shoreline' is very safe for the little ones. The toddler area is totally fenced off, so there is no danger of them running off and has games and balls to play with. Our two LOVE the lazy river that starts inside before going outside and then returning to the other side of the pool. Daddy loves the flumes and slides. There is a cafe for snacks and a swimming shop in case you've forgotten any essentials. The Adventure Centre has a circus themed under 5s soft play and the Wildwood Cafe upstairs and a larger soft play, bouncy castle, arcade, mini golf and wooden adventure area. We have been able to spend the entire day in here before, with two very happy kids. There is also the chance for older children to rock climb and do the high ropes! In the village you’ll find play parks for large and small, a playing field, the tavern which is the village pub, serving food and drink and the Ty Coffi coffee shop which serves light lunches, snacks and awesome ice cream. There are also two restaurants, The Farmhouse Grill, which serves fabulous grilled meat and fish, as well as vegetarian and vegan options, and the Oaktree, which serves delicious Italian food. Getting around is easy. You can walk, cycle, get the land train or hire a buggy. Although it’s hilly, walking is easy enough and a great way to explore. Nothing is too far away but riding a buggy is awesome fun! There are woodland trails which can't be accessed by buggy but make an excellent trip for nature walks and trips to find the fairies. A stroll about the lake is also a wonderful way to end an evening. There are a whole host of activities that you can book to take part in, including shows, nature activities, craft sessions and even gold panning at Camp Smokey! As our children are just 2 and 4, we have only booked Woody Wild shows as extras, everything else we have done has been included in the booking. The one thing I am consistently impressed with is the staff. The entertainment staff are amazing with the children, the restaurant staff are always on hand to help wherever they can and everyone says hello. EVERYONE. We've been five times and I'm yet to walk or drive by a member of staff who doesn't say hello. There’s so much more I could rave about but it would take all day!
