Everything you need for a fun day out in the great outdoors!
Located only 7 miles from the centre of Northampton and 11 miles from Milton Keynes, Salcey Forest is an oasis of nature and history. This magnificent woodland has many miles of ancient wood banks, building remains and ancient trees to explore. The 'druids', or veteran oaks, are rare and amazing wildlife habitats, and some of the old oaks are over 600 years old.
It’s a perfect location for a great day out with all the family, there are beautiful walking trails, a family cycling trail, a horse riding trail, an adventure play area and a warm and friendly café selling tasty homemade meals and cakes.

Such a nice day out going for a walk in the woods, so many trails. The cafe had really good food and drinks, bit pricey, next time I'd bring a picnic. There are benches to sit at sheltering from the wind. Not a lot of signal so we couldn't download the Gruffalo app to do the Gruffalo walk but my daughter still enjoyed the walk by spotting the characters from the book on signs on the trail. Little play area with wooden huts was nice for her to play in. Parking was £4 for 2 hours. Toilet facilities ok. Would definitely go again

Salcey forest is fantastic. We followed the Gruffalo Trail using the app which we downloaded prior to going. It's one of the best apps ever and made a great game out of a lovely walk around the woods. The animals are quite close together so it doesnt take to long to spot them all and keeps kids engaged. It can be muddy but that's what wellies are for!! We also done the tree top walk which is amazing and worth doing. It is buggy friendly until you get near the top which is then steps but the view is incredible.

Salcey forest is great for kids, woodland area with lots of different tracks and walks for everyone, dogs allowed too. Tree top walk, suitable for buggies too. Special event on at the moment. Spot the gruffalo trail. Lots of signs and things to spot. Gruffalo kit is £3 but don't need it to enjoy the walk. Download free gruffalo spotter app before you go and take photos with the gruffalo characters!

Brilliant for any age. Christoph and I did the 1.5 mile walk twice with a play in the playground in between. My husband and Claudia did the 5 mile cycling route. The signage for the trails is very clear and you couldn't really go wrong. we didn't go to the cafe, but took our own picnic. Unfortunately there are not very many picnic tables and clearly not enough bins as I did see some littering around the trail. We still had a brilliant morning. Going early when the weather is good is certainly recommended as it can become very busy.

Such a great place for kids all year round. With a tree top walk, elephant walk, zip wire and huge play area (Probs better suited to bigger kids) it's got plenty to do for a good day out. There is also a cafe serving hot and cold food but you need to get in quick as it seems to sell out. In the summer they have a Gruffalo trail too which the kids love on foot or on bikes. It's just a really nice place to go and be outdoors.

Great outdoor run for the kids (and adults!). Fabulous tree top walk (all secure). And FREE (apart from the car park). Lovely cafe and little wooden park.

Great all year round fun in the woods has tree top walk and rope assault course for older ones. Parking is £4 all day but cheapest way if you visit regularly is to get a year a pass. The cafe is great in summer it has lots of outside tables and wintery days the log burner makes it all toasty. Food is good and they cater from breakfast till 5ish Great day out or just for a short walk!
