Summerfields Miniature Railways
Closed right now, see opening hours
A volunteer run miniature railway open on select Sundays, bank holidays and Wednesdays in school holidays.
There are ride on miniature trains running from the main station and then you can switch over to go on shorter rides on a variety of engines (one was a Thomas The Tank Engine character!); here there is also a small model railway that you can watch too. You buy a ticket for your main ride for about £2 per adult. We didn't pay for our 1 year old. Then once at the change over point you can buy extra tickets for additional rides, or just wait to get the train back. The tickets are old fashioned, little stub kinds, which adds to the railway's charm.
The volunteers are clearly passionate about what they do and the whole site is maintained beautifully because of this. We went on the main train ride and paid for one extra on a different kind of engine. Afterwards we stopped for a cup of tea and massive iced bun in their tea room. This is only a simple set up but more than ample for what's needed. There are toilets on site but I'm not sure about a baby change (I'll look next time!).
All in all we had a lovely few hours out and we would recommend it as a trip; it would entertain all ages - babies to adults! It's very reasonably priced - with free parking too!
The railway also run Christmas Santa specials (all sold out for 2018).
