Situated behind Coatbridge Central station, Summerlee's 22 acre site (built on a former ironworks) is a cracking day out for all the family. This is where social history really comes to life through the exhibits and installations, and there are always interesting and engaging events going on too. It's fascinating to see and hear depictions of what life was really like for people in the past, and if you're old enough to remember the 80s with clarity, you'll probably feel a bit ancient when you realise just how long ago the Miners' Strike was! Don't miss the miners' cottages, frozen in time at different eras and also accommodating a good old fashioned sweet shop. Then there's the Vulcan (a replica of the first all-iron hulled barge) to explore, and a BRILLIANT playground to boot.
